World Class
I have owned from new a 2005 955 Cayenne S, which I still love driving and prefer to the current models. Around seven years ago it developed a (well-known) problem with cylinder scoring. I couldn't find anyone in the UK offering any sensible solution, so took the car from London to Van Kronenburg. They rebuilt the lower end, coating the cylinder walls in more durable Nikasil, rather than the original Alusil, and at a very fair price. Brilliant job. Recently the car, which has now covered 165K miles, developed a timing chain issue. Everyone I contacted in the UK (and Germany) insisted that it must be an engine-out job, costing a huge multiple of the car's value. Instead, I took it back to Van Kronenburg, who have perfected a means of retensioning the chain without removing the engine. I had a great couple of days in Amsterdam while the work was being done, Huge thanks to owner Jon (who showed me around the facility and very kindly drove me to and from the station) and Maikel (who handled all the contact in a very efficient and friendly way. It's great seeing how Van Kronenburg and sister operation Kronenburg Management Systems have developed since I was last there. I know my way around the automotive world, having been an adviser to several OEMs, was on the board of Gordon Murray Group and am Chair of eaglegb.com. I know excellence when I see it - and Van Knonenburg is genuinely world-class.
