Loved this experience . Food was amazing and we had lots of fun cooking it . Can definitely recommend it !

Mijn man en ik hebben ons zeer vermaakt en veel kennis opgedaan over de Indische keuken. Vooral het kennis maken met de typische ingrediënten en hoe simpel je eigenlijk je eigen bambu maakt waren een eye opener en we gaan er zeer zeker mee verder. Helaas waren we vergeten de zelf gemaakte rendang bambu mee te nemen.

The cooking lesson with David was fun, interactive, and resulted in delicious food. He was very helpful and patient with our group, as we are all beginners with cooking. I would definitely recommend - it was a great team building experience.

Erg leuke workshop waarbij je de heerlijkste gerechten maakt!

David is een echte vakman die je de kneepjes van het koken met plezier onderwijst. Veel geleerd over kruiden, de ontstaansgeschiedenis en bereidingen van de diverse gerechten. Ik volgde de cursus met 2 vriendinnen, we hebben in dei paar uurtjes een hoop geleerd, veel gelachen en aan het einde zalig gegeten!

I absolutely loved the workshop I followed with the people from the Amsterdam Cooking Workshops! Having tasted Indonesian cooking before with friends or at the Tong tong fair I found that the Indonesian Kitchen is really tasty and rich. However until now I always thought that it was to difficult for me and always takes ages to prepare. But in this workshop I learned tricks and nice recipes that are actually fairly easy to replicate at home. Tomorrow almost a week after having followed this workshop I am already confident enough to cook the recipes for a group of friends. To conclude, if your looking for a fun way to explore the Indonesian kitchen this workshop is for you!

With a group of friends we enjoyed a wonderful evening learning some basic Indonesian cooking skills. David and Jade are warm hosts providing advise and assistance where needed (and it was needed!) Definitely recommended for an educational, pleasant evening with a delicious dinner as grand finale.

Davids enthousiasme for indonesian cooking is catching! We learned a lot and were surprised by our own cooking! He’s a good teacher and good host together with Jade. It was absolutely ‘senang’ as they say in indonesian

David is a master of his craft. From running us through the history of Indonesian-Dutch relations to aiding in the creation of restaurant quality cuisine, David surpassed our exceptions entirely. You’ll leave this experience with a full mind and an even fuller stomach, as well as all the information you need to replicate the fruits of your labour at home. Would definitely recommend.

De hartelijke ontvangst beloofde veel goeds. Na een korte uitleg over de straatnaam (en wat een uniek plekje in het centrum van Amsterdam), naar “de kookplek”. Na eerst een stuk familiegeschiedenis en een stuk geschiedenis over Indonesië, mochten we aan tafel. Wat achtergrond over de diverse kruiden en hoe te bereiden en het proeven van de diverse zelfgemaakte sambals en daarna aan de slag met het bereiden van het menu. David gaf aanwijzingen en allengs waren de eerste boemboes klaar. De rendang pruttelde lekker terwijl wij de andere gerechten prepareerden. Eenmaal alles klaar hebben we heerlijk gegeten van de door ons bereide gerechten. Door de persoonlijke tint die David aan deze avond gaf, hebben wij extra genoten. The experience with David was just amazing ... I could be more close to the Indonesian culture and feel almost all the nice tastes with this amazing cuisine .. our workshop was really enjoyable and funny , time went quickly and the food that we make was just delicious ... David is an excellent host. He is well-versed in Indonesian culture, to include sharing some of his family's personal history living and working in Indonesia. He is very friendly and patient, and is willing to take the time to guide you through the cooking process. He readily shares his knowledge of spices and ingredients, and how they combine in different ways to produce different results as needed. Attentive to his guests' comfort and needs, all while complying with current health regulations. His knowledge and abilities allow him to craft a personalized menu based on your tastes and desires, which adds to the overall experience. When the workshop is done, he sends you the recipes for what you just made so you can recreate the dishes at home. Overall, this is an exceptional experience and one which should not be missed if you enjoy the culinary arts, good food, and learning about other cultures and history.

Last Friday I followed a cooking workshop with my husband at David’s. What I experienced was not only good teaching in making delicious, authentic Indonesian food, but a charismatic teacher that knows all about food, Indonesian history and the neighborhood we were in. Even my husband, who is quite anti-cooking normally, was enthusiastic. Definitely an experience I’d recommended doing when visiting Amsterdam or you’re looking for a good night out with your love, family or friends. Thank you David!

David gaf een goeie inleiding, geschiedenis van Indonesië . Uitleg over de kruiden en natuurlijk kneepjes bijgeleerd. Leuke recepten en lekker gegeten. Kortom het was een gezellige , leerzame dag.

David's class was a perfect balance of Indonesian culture/history and cooking. We were very impressed with how well-organised David was, as we moved through the steps of cooking. He made sure to explain all the ingredients and answer all of our questions, while teaching us Indonesian vegetarian dishes which are doable at home. I recommend this class 100%!

David gaf een mooie inleiding met dia’s over Indonesië en informatie over Indische kruiden en sambal. Alles was in de puntjes voorbereid en duidelijke uitleg. Tijdens het snijden van de groente en kruiden kregen informatie. De gerechten waren heerlijk. Je krijgt alle recepturen van de gemaakte gerechten mee naar huis. Het was een leerzame en leuke ervaring, een aanrader.

Op een zeer professionele manier een heerlijke middag uit bij de kookworkshop van David Kloosterboer. Heel veel geleerd over de Indische keuken en heerlijk gegeten na afloop. Een aanrader.

Ik ben wel enigszins bekend met de Indonesische keuken, maar het zelf leren bereiden was een unieke ervaring. De kennis van alle specerijen en te zien waar ze allemaal vandaan komen worden op een zeer goede manier overgebracht. En dan die heerlijke zelfgemaakte sambal in twee verschillende soorten. Verrukkelijk gewoon en zeer de moeite waard om mee te maken.

We were a group of friends who all love Indonesian food and wanted to learn the basics to make some at home. David is a great chef that delivered a great Indonesian experience at his home in central Amsterdam! He is very proud of his Indonesian heritage and gave us more insight into the country as a nice backdrop ahead of the cooking. Although we were in Amsterdam, it really felt like we were transported to Indonesia. He provided great produce with easy to follow recipes. When in doubt, he was right there to give a helping hand and the much necessary taste approval. He made everything convenient and simple! We prepared a wide variety of great tasting Indonesian food that were fit for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The recipes were shared via email which was great to start the home cooking! I highly recommend the cooking experience with David if you want to learn, cook, eat and have great fun while doing so in a calm and relaxed setting!

A group of 5 of us signed up for David's cooking workshop. For a little extra space for our larger group, most of the event was at our place. We had a fantastic time. David is very knowledgeable and passionate about Indonesian cuisine and culture. His energy came out through the all parts of the evening (the introduction, the lesson in spices and vegetables and the actual cooking & eating). We learned a lot. David also adapted well to our energy as a group so the flow of the evening was perfect! And of course the food itself was in abundance, nice variety and very tasty! It also felt so healthy because we could see all the fresh ingredients we used (we also had a pregnant lady in our group). Such a unique experience with friends! I would highly recommend!

Going to Davide’s home in the glamorous center of Amsterdam was already the beginning of a unique experience. Davide gave us a captivating and personalized touch to an intro of Indonesian-Dutch history to start. Then we moved to getting an introduction of different spices and condiments. Moving on to the dishes was sublime. We had great fun, great conversations, cooking tips and tricks and the outcome of the meals were finger-licking good. The only downside is that we couldn’t drink any alcoholic beverage, the only crucial missing ingredient while spending 4 hours cooking with friends.

David is friendly and passionated about his Indonesian food and family history! I would highly recommend his cooking workshop.
