Good morning Robert Blauvelt,
We are very sorry to hear that you had a negative experience with motorparts-online.com regarding the shipping costs. We truly regret this.
Shipping costs are currently very high to certain countries, which we also find challenging and, of course, frustrating. Global fuel prices remain high and are still rising due to ongoing instability around the world, which drives up the costs of air and sea freight. Unfortunately, these costs are often passed on to the customer.
Regarding import taxes, you are notified of these when placing your order. However, the exact costs cannot be specified in advance, as they depend on the type of part/product ordered. These charges are applied directly by UPS and are not received by Motorparts-online.com.
When a package is shipped from outside the EU, it must go through customs. This incurs import duties, VAT, and administrative fees — which can be significant, especially for heavier or more expensive parts.
As of August 29, 2025, the rules have changed, with major implications for shipments. Until 2025, packages under $800 in value usually did not have to pay import duties. That exemption (the “de minimis”) has been removed for most commercial shipments to the U.S. This means almost every package can now be subject to duties and taxes, regardless of value.
The U.S. calculates import duties based on product type and origin. For European products, a general import rate of around 15% is typical, but it can vary per item. There are also processing and clearance fees charged by the carrier (e.g., UPS or DHL) for handling customs formalities.
As unfortunate as this is, it is something to keep in mind when purchasing parts/products shipped from Europe to the United States.
We hope that the part you received meets your expectations, and if there is anything we can assist you with in the future, we would be happy to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Team Motorparts-online.com
