We're sorry to hear your complaint about your Instant Pot.
Such small amounts of rice might be problematic but we trust you see how great this cooker is for everything else.
We recommend trying the Pot in Pot method for cooking small volumes and preventing the burn message. Our Ziva stackable stainless steel double steamer basket is very useful for cooking (and steaming) smaller volumes. You still have to put enough liquid in the Instant Pot inner pot but you can use less liquid in the PiP basket.
Please not that the burn message is indeed sensitive but is, in almost all other cases, very useful to prevent food burn and dissappointment. Please check your instruction manual for the minimal volumes of liquid that need to be added based on the size of your pot to prevent the burn message.
